EXTENSION OF HIRATSUKA STADIUM IN JAPAN
After the completion of the Kamaishi Unosumai Stadium, specially built for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, GL events presents its second stadium project in Japan. For the first division promotion of the Shonan Bellmare football team, the capacity of the Hiratsuka Stadium has been increased up to more than 15,000 seats thanks to this new extension in partnership with the Azusa Sekkei architectural office.
The first of GL events’ grandstands in Japan was set up this summer for the Kamaishi Unosumai Stadium. The opening of this stadium symbolizes an important milestone for the Rugby World Cup 2019. On this occasion, we created an 800-seat extension for the opening ceremony that took place in August 2018.

Last October a total of four modular grandstands of 1,400 seats were set up for the second stadium extension of GL events in Japan, inside the Hiratsuka Stadium. This construction offers the capacity of regulatory seatings for the 25th edition of the J-league championship. placed around a curve, the grandstands are separated into four blocks of three, allowing the installation of seats on existing concrete stands.

Custom metal staircases had to be made on site, in order to proceed with construction on grandstands originally planned to be standing areas. The anchorage of the stands has therefore been adapted from the existing concrete steps. The stadium belongsto the city, so the grandstand could eventually be dismantled in five years at the end of the club’s lease and the stairs refurbished.

Thanks to the challenge taken up by our teams, this project initially planned to be completed in two weeks will finally be finished in one week. This solution of a modular system used as a permanent grandstand , allows us to increase the seating capacity of a stadium in a very short time, adapting to the constraints of the existing stadium.
